Paving the Way for Women and Planning for the Future

Planning To Leave a Legacy? Why not have it used for something you believe in?

Have you ever wondered how the good that you have made possible in your life can be perpetuated? Have you ever wished you could pass your values on to the next generation and leave the world a little bit better than you found it? IEEE Goldsmith Legacy League members Dorothy and Lyle Feisel have thought about these questions very carefully. “My wife and I have included the IEEE Foundation in our estate plan because you can’t take it with you, so why not have it used for something you believe in? The IEEE Foundation is a very efficient and effective charity that will make good use of any bequest.” The Feisels used the opportunity of estate planning to leave a legacy and help the “critical function” of the IEEE Foundation. You too can plan your estate to be sure leave your legacy.

Paving the Way for Women in Engineering

Frances B. Hugle paved the way for women in engineering. One such woman is Olivia Figueira, the 2020 recipient of the IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Frances B. Hugle Scholarship in recognition of her outstanding academic performance and passion for engineering. “I plan to continue to engage with organizations such as IEEE and IEEE WIE in the future of my career to further widen participation in engineering, as was one of Frances B. Hugel’s goals,” said Olivia. This scholarship enables IEEE WIE student members to follow in the footsteps of the pioneering Silicon Valley engineer, as Olivia plans to do.

Leaving a Legacy for Engineering Education

Joseph L. A. Hughes, IEEE Fellow, dedicates his career to the advancement of engineering education. His path began during his undergraduate years at Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, IL, US where he joined IEEE to gain access to professional information and was inducted into the Delta Chapter of IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu (HKN). In deciding the best place to leave his legacy, he decided to direct his bequest to IEEE educational programs designed for pre-university & university students, and IEEE-HKN.
