Past President Helps IEEE Foundation’s First Major Fundraising Campaign Take Flight

On February 16th, IEEE, the world’s largest technical professional organization with 420,000 members in 160 countries, in tandem with its philanthropic partner IEEE Foundation, announced the launch of its first-ever major fundraising Campaign. The Realize the Full Potential of IEEE Campaign, already more than half way towards its $30 million goal, is reaching out to organizations, corporations and individuals worldwide to join in its efforts to drive new levels of technological access, innovation and engagement through a variety of exciting and far-reaching global initiatives designed to transform lives through the power of technology and education.

Perhaps no one understands and appreciates the heart and soul of the IEEE mission and the importance of this landmark campaign more than Jerry Suran, who served as the 1979 IEEE President and also holds the esteemed title of the oldest living IEEE president.

"My association with IEEE has been a long and fruitful one and I've watched as the organization has grown in both scope and impact,” shared Suran, whose generous donation during the private phase of the fundraising effort helped meet the financial threshold that enabled the landmark Campaign to go public in February 2018.

“The important work that's being funded through the IEEE Foundation should make every member proud,” Suran continued. “I am heartened that so many of my colleagues, those that have served as past Presidents of IEEE, have joined me as members of the President's Council and I urge all others to consider doing so today by making a gift to the Campaign and helping to drive and ensure the IEEE legacy for years to come."

IEEE members and non-members alike interested in ‘advancing technology for humanity’ and addressing a range of global challenges via any kind of donation of ‘time, talent, or treasure’ to the IEEE Foundation’s milestone fundraising campaign are encouraged to call (732) 465-5871 or visit for more information.
