IEEE Foundation Lights Up IEEE PES T&D

IEEE Executive Director, Steve Welby, opened the joint IEEE Foundation & IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Donor Luncheon at the bi-annual IEEE PES T&D Conference in Denver, CO by recognizing the success of the IEEE PES Scholarship Plus Initiative and how in 8 short years, more than 800 students are pursuing a career in the power & energy industry.

Following Welby’s comments, Saifur Rahman, IEEE PES President thanked our guests for their contributions of time, talent and treasure and encouraged them to share the impact of programs like the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Scholarship Plus Initiative and IEEE Smart Village with their colleagues and fellow PES members.

PES Scholars mingled with 2012 IEEE President Gordon Day, 2018 PES Scholarship Plus Committee Chair Rick Pieper of MYR Group and thanked corporate representatives from companies including Eaton, Nayak Power Systems, Omicron, Sargent & Lundy and Ulteig for their financial support.

PES Scholar Alum Jamie Padilla of SDG Engineering discussed her involvement as a Foundation donor and volunteer, and through highlighting the various IEEE and PES philanthropic activities, encouraged current Scholars to become involved in the Campaign and make an impact today.

Donors to the PES Scholarship Plus Initiative are committed to shaping the future of the power and energy industry by investing in the program which attracts highly qualified engineering students to the field. These students are the very individuals who will one day develop new green technologies, build the smart grid and change the way we generate and utilize power.
Events like IEEE PES T&D allow PES Scholars and Donors to meet and network.
