Announcing 2024 IEEE STEM Grantees

IOT Workshop

TryEngineering.org is the home for IEEE volunteers who are committed to inspiring the next generation of engineers by engaging school-aged children in hands-on  engineering activities through outreach initiatives. Each year through its IEEE TryEngineering Pre-University STEM Grant Program, IEEE units and their volunteers are invited to apply for funding to support engineering outreach work in their community. Projects range from engineering camps and teacher workshops to programs for parents and hands-on activities.

2024 IEEE TryEngineering STEM Portal Grant Cycle

The 2024 IEEE STEM Grant cycle opened in late 2023 and closed at the end of January 2024. In its fourth year of operation, a record high 464 proposals from volunteers around the world were received seeking funding ranging from US$300 to US$2,000.

After careful consideration, the IEEE Educational Activities Student and Academic Pre-University Coordination Committee (PECC) selected 53 programs, a 23% increase over 2023, to receive grants with combined funding of $60,298. Debra Gulick, Director of Student and Academic Education Programs, shared the following: “IEEE’s dedicated volunteers around the world allow TryEngineering to have a great impact on future technologists.  We know that school-aged children are more likely to pursue a STEM field when they have the chance to meet a working professional in their community. The TryEngineering STEM Grants allow these connections to develop leading to amazing results.” The grants awarded are categorized into the following levels:

  • Inspire Level (Each awarded $1,001 to $2,000) – 20 programs awarded totaling $37,030
  • Share Level (Each awarded $501 to $1,000) – 17 programs awarded totaling $15,669
  • Introductory Level (Each awarded up to $500) – 16 programs awarded totaling $7,599

Donations to the IEEE TryEngineering Fund of the IEEE Foundation, funding from the IEEE Jon C. Taenzer Memorial Fund of the IEEE Foundation, and support from the IEEE Communications, Signal Processing and Oceanic Engineering Societies and IEEE Women in Engineering helped ensure the maximum number of grants could be awarded.

Congratulations to the following 2024 IEEE STEM Grant recipients:
